Affordable Changes You Can Make To Transform Your Home

Share

If you’re wanting to make some changes to your home without spending an absolute fortune, you’re in the right place! We’re here with affordable changes you can make to transform your home, no matter what your budget is or what your home is like. These are all easy DIY things to implement that will make you fall in love with your home again, as we all deserve to, plus it can even add value to your home. So, let’s get into it and help you to get inspired!

A Fresh Lick of Paint With Neutral Colour Scheme

Firstly, one of the best things you can do to refresh your home is to give it a fresh lick of paint! Choosing a neutral colour scheme that is nice and bright like an off white or cream makes rooms feel so spacious, as well as more luxury without spending a fortune. It just helps to bright everything up and give you a blank canvas to work with in terms of your furnishings and things. You can find affordable paint at your local DIY stores, or you could also use price comparison websites to help find the paint you’re looking for at the best price. Another option is to look on local marketplaces, as you’d be surprised at how many people will have loads of spare paint they want to get rid of, either really cheap or sometimes free! It could be that they opened it, realised it wasn’t the right colour and never bothered to return, or maybe they only used a small amount. Just make sure you’ll have enough to completely finish the room, or you could just buy another container of the same paint if needed (as long as it’s not discontinued). You’d be surprised at how much of a difference a fresh coat of paint can make to the look and feel of a room.

Panelling

Next up we have panelling, a really affordable way to add such a luxury touch to any room! Whether you choose to put it in your hallway, living room or bedroom, panelling can add such a nice touch to any space and really bring it to life. Make sure that you watch plenty of videos about how to do this and take your time when cutting the pieces of panelling down to fit, however it’s so worth doing as you can do this for less than £50 usually (depending on how much of the wall you’re wanting to cover). There are lots of different designs you can go with to suit the space, so do a bit of research and find something to suit you and your home. Our best piece of advice is to take your time with this to get excellent results.

Invest In A Good Bed Throw

If you’re wanting to transform your bedroom, one of the best things you can do is to invest in a good bed throw. Often people spend lots of money on bedding and then also throw, however you can get more affordable actual bedding and then create a really luxurious look with a good quality throw over the top. You save money and still get the same effect! Soft furnishings like throws and rugs make such a difference and are important finishing touches, plus the bed is the centrepiece of the room and so putting your budget into this will make a big difference! Whether your budget is £20 or £200, a throw will make all the difference to your bedroom.

Change Your Window Dressings

Another focal point of any room are the windows, so part of your transformation could be changing your window dressings. Whether you want custom blinds in Watford if you have a slightly higher budget or you head to your local highstreet in Manchester to find curtains, choosing something to compliment the window and the room around it can make a big difference to how any room looks. If you do want to invest in something, then blinds are a good direction to go, as they are cost effective overall because good blinds will help to stop cold air entering and prevent warm air from heating, so you will likely save a lot on your heating bills over the course of their lifetime! Again, this all depends on budget, however changing up your window dressings can make a big difference.

Paint Tiles

Replacing tiles, whether it’s in your bathroom or kitchen, can be a big and expensive project. So, instead, a great and affordable way to refresh a space is to paint them! You can get tile paint at most DIY stores (or this is another good opportunity to use our tip of looking for very cheap or free paint on local marketplaces, just make sure that it’s definitely tile paint), then either you could paint them all one colour, or go in with a base coat and then use stencils to add nice designs on top. As with many of our tips here, the trick is to be patient and take your time, making sure all of the layers are fully dry between so you don’t end up with cottage cheese looking tiles! You can so easily customise this to suit your home and it can make a big difference.

Refresh Countertops

Now focusing a bit more on the kitchen, something that can really transform the space is refreshing the countertops. You can get really cheap vinyl worktop wraps that are easy to apply and you can choose from so many options, from black quartz effect to marble, oak and everything in between! We know we’re repeating ourselves, but take your time with this and the results can be fantastic. The wraps can last for years before they need replacing and they can easily be removed with your countertop being in the original condition. This is a really simple but effective option to transform the look of your kitchen.
