Want to see how cider is made according to old recipes? Or maybe you dreamed of trying spicy homemade cheddar made from real fresh milk? Welcome to Fly Cider Mill & Orchard Farm in Cooperstown. It will take you an hour and a half to get there by rental car from Albany. 

First, play with local ducks and geese, and then take a look at the quirky Tractorland and stay longer at the Mill Store Marketplace. You can sample over forty specialties and drinks there, including local wine and strong cider. After a hearty meal, head to Millpond Promenade for some rest, great views and tasty desserts served at Snack Barn & Bakery

You can visit the Fly Cider Mill & Orchard farm for a couple of hours, but better – for the whole day, because time flies in nature.

Hawthorne Valley Farm

Hawthorne Valley Farm is famous for its dairy farm, bakery and pickle cellar. The freshest food store is open seven days a week.

Harbes Family Farm & Vineyard is just two picturesque farms located in the neighborhood. The first one grows pumpkins and corn, and is also famous for its intricate corn mazes. The second is famous for its organic vineyards and a cellar, where you can find rare hand-made wines. 

It is difficult to say where it’s better to start and how to end this excursion – whether to wander through the corn mazes, and then go to taste the branded wine, or vice versa. Old Bethpage Village Restoration

This village is still in the 19th century. Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a beautiful reconstruction of a farmhouse from the century before last. On an area of ​​209 acres, you will find 58 historic buildings, 7 of which have been meticulously recreated from old paintings and drawings. 

Locals and professional guides are dressed in costumes of those times and are ready to tell you and your children a lot of interesting stories related to the times when there were no cars, planes and telephones.

Lazy Acre Alpacas

Traveling to Lazy Acre Alpacas in your rental car may take a little longer than you expect. However, it’s worth coming there, if only for the sake of looking into the eyes of cute animals. 

The 180-acre Lazy Acre Alpacas is home to over 75 adult alpacas and their offspring. These animals are loved not only for their eternally naive and kind faces – warm and light sweaters, scarves and other environmentally friendly clothes are knitted from soft and thin alpaca wool.
